The Jaipur police commissioner, Anand Kumar Srivastava, launched a new software on Friday that would allocate duty rosters for traffic police personnel to ensure a fair distribution of assignments.
Srivastava said that in the first stage, this software would be used to generate duty allocations for constables. A fortnight later, head constables would also be included in the newly inaugurated digitised system. He further mentioned that after a certain time the entire duty assignments would be conducted with the help of the software.
Earlier, duty charts were prepared after lengthy deliberations, often leading to discontent among constables because many of them missed out on field assignments or were posted to remote locations.
Additional commissioner of police (traffic and administration) Rahul Prakash said that the newly introduced software would weed out these hurdles by digitising the process and making duty rosters to ensure fair distribution of assignments.
“Even our traffic personnel could participate in this transparent system. They would be able to see how duties are allocated,” he said, adding that the software would ensure that personnel are regularly shuffled across different locations to give them duty experience of all areas of the city and increase their skill set. He added Jaipur police have been working with leading IT experts to streamline police operations.
Speaking at the event, Srivastava mentioned that managing the city’s traffic remains a challenging task.
He said, “One can gauge the challenge by the very fact that an estimated 500 to 600 vehicles come on the road every day. Roads cannot be extended overnight to accommodate such a rapid expansion, and the increasing number of traffic jam points is correlated with the rise in vehicles.”
He also said that the traffic police are now working to remove all obstacles from the roads that impede the flow of vehicular traffic.
